About Extensions

Hair Extensions Coconut Grove

Marquesa Hair Distinction: Our hair extensions blend into the hair, leaving it impossible to tell where your natural hair ends and the extensions begin. Hair extensions will enhance your sense of taste and style. We specialize in creating the haircut and style that fits only you. We use Remy Human Hair, which is the highest grade of real, human hair that is a preferred choice for hair extensions, hairpieces and wigs because it achieves the most natural look.

So what does Remy Human Hair mean?

Remy Hair is considered to be the finest quality of human hair because the cuticles are kept intact and not stripped, like in most other non-Remy hair extensions or wigs. Preserving the hairs’ cuticles and aligning them in a unidirectional fashion creates hair length and volume, which are completely natural in appearance. This process ensures that the hair remains super soft, shiny, silky and completely tangle-free throughout its lifetime.

Marquesa Hair Extensions use only the finest quality Remy Human Hair, which means that the hair has been carefully sorted after collecting from the hair donor to ensure all the cuticles are of the same length.

Marquesa is by far the best quality hair on the market because of the care that is required and the time it takes to sort the hair so meticulously.

Application of Hair Extensions by an Extensionist

Natural Human Hair Extensions

Natural Human Hair Extensions are the most popular form of extensions because they look and feel so natural and are so easy to wear. There are several ways of attaching real hair, but we will choose the proper method of application based on the condition of your hair, the length of your hair and the texture of your hair. When it is time to remove your extensions we will simply setup an appointment for you to remove the applied method in a safety way.

Each individual extension method is individually color matched and it is applied allowing for subtle highlights, lowlights and movement to the hair giving a perfect natural color match every time.

Another advantage of the techniques we use is that, unlike some other extension systems, all ours extensionists are thoroughly certified and highly trained in all methods of applications to insure your extensions look amazing. With human hair it is often possible to re-use some of the hair for a second application, which will result in a reduced cost the second time around.

Marquesa Hair is the very best of what is available in top quality human hair. We offer:

Indian Hair

A very popular choice as the hair quality is excellent but not quite as good as the European grade hair. There is a more limited color range on this type of hair and you can expect that it will dry with a natural wave. All the hair is pre-dyed to match a color chart from which we can match a client's hair. The Hair can be Remy or Non-Remy, depending on your budget. This type of hair can also be tatally virgin which means no chemicals have been used to enhance or to deplete cuticle from the hair strand. You have two color to choose from Indian Remy Hair, color #2 and color #4, we offer various textures to choose from.

European Hair

This is the most popular choice for its soft natural feel and extensive color range. This type of hair will dry with a natural wave. All the hair is pre-dyed to match a color chart from which we can match a client's hair. Because european hair is very hard to acquire, there for is more expensive and of better quality.

Russian or Ukrainian Virgin Hair

This is the most exclusive beautiful and rare type of hair as it has not been dyed or chemically treated in any way. The color range is limited and may have to be dyed to match individual client's requirements.  Normally you would have a choice of colors similar to our color swatch: colors #7,8,12,14 and 16. Costumed made orders are acceptable. Allow two to three weeks for delivery.

Synthetic Hair

Synthetic hair extensions are used by many people for a number of reasons, some people just do not like the idea of wearing real hair and for many people it is the more affordable option costing on average one third less then the equivalent in real hair. Fake hair is made in almost every shade, curl and texture imaginable, and in myriad grades - from the cheapest doll hair to the best quality sort of hair you can wear 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for months on end. The hair we use is made especially for us and is subjected to extra conditioning processes that result in its exceptional quality.

One of the reasons many people still enjoy the fake hair is that it does hold a style incredibly well; for example if you curl it with heated rollers the curl can last days instead of hours as it would with real hair, and if you want to wear it poker straight and have it stay that way, even in the rain, fake hair is possibly a better option. Another advantage is that you get more volume per connection then with real hair, which is useful when being applied for thickness. Most of our synthetic hair or synthetic hair blend are made with a japanese fiber called kanekalon, in most cases the fiber can be styled with a curly iron.

It is important to realize though, that there are also certain drawbacks in having fake hair such as you can not use high heated styling equipment like straightening irons and curling tongs. Make sure you read the instructions card before you begin using heat.

Human Vs. Synthetic

Human Hair Extensions vs. Synthetic Extensions

If properly applied, all synthetic hair extensions and human hair extensions can be washed, brushed, straightened, and curled and can be worn 24/7 for months on end, looking as good when they come out as when they went in, however there are distinct differences between the two types:-

For the most part the advantages of having real hair outweigh those of having fake hair but there are reasons why either one might be preferable.

The main advantage of real hair is that it is far easier to look after. There is no need to treat it any differently to your own hair and it looks and feels so natural that even a trained eye cannot tell you are wearing them (when they are expertly applied). When left to dry naturally they dry with the same natural kink/wave that most people's hair dries with, meaning it blends easily without even the need for styling. Another major advantage is that there is no restriction with styling. You can use straightening irons and curling tongs freely, which is not the case with synthetic hair. You also have the option of dying the real hair, which is not possible with fake hair. For these reason the celebrities usually opt for the real hair.

People who want long hair on a budget should opt for fake hair. Some of the other advantages are that fake hair does hold a style incredibly well, for example, if you curl it with heated rollers the curl can last days instead of hours as it would with real hair, and if you want to wear it poker straight and have it stay that way, even in the rain, fake hair is possibly a better option. Another advantage is that you get more volume per connection than with real hair, which is useful when having extensions applied for thickness.

Hopefully understanding the pro's and cons of each type will help you make an informed decision about which option is best for you.

Hair Extensions Questions & Answers

Q. How long will it take to add extensions by an extensionist to my own hair?

A - This will depend on the look you are going for and the technique chosen, and consequently how many extensions and amount of hair it will take to achieve that look. On average a thickening process could take 1-3 hours and a lengthening process 4-5 hrs. We will fully advise you of timings and costs when you have your initial consultation at Orlando Rivera Consultry.

Q. Will people be able to tell that I’m wearing extensions?

A - Provided you choose a style and color that matches your own hair, the extensions will look totally natural and no one need ever know except you and perhaps that special someone who is allowed to run their hands through your hair. On the other hand, if you're going for an obviously fun, funky look for a party or for just to enjoy a different buzz, then of course people will be able to tell - but only because you want them to.

Q. How long does my hair have to be to have hair extensions?

A - 4-5 inches but the nape of neck hair can be a little shorter 3 inches minimum.

Q. How much will it cost?

Please visit our Pricing page

Q. Will my hair look natural?

A - All our extensions are custom-made for you. For Real hair, we keep detailed records of your color and order the hair in for each individual client. For fake hair we blend all of our hair in front of our clients for a truly natural effect, we take great care to blend in a range of both highlights and lowlights into each head of hair we work with, so that your extensions have exactly the same depth and reflectiveness of any natural head of human hair. All this makes your extensions truly undetectable from the real thing

Q – Will Extensions damage my hair?

A - This is a commonly asked question. When extensions are applied properly there is virtually no reason why they would damage your hair, and to this end thousands of women have used extensions to grow their own hair to a desired length with no adverse effects whatsoever. However, that is not to say everybody's hair is suitable for extensions. At Orlando Rivera we take the safety of your hair very seriously and take every reasonable precaution to ascertain the suitability of your hair before commencing with the extensions. This includes a free consultation and free test extensions as well as complimentary check up appointments while you are wearing the extensions. Everybody experiences normal hair shedding, don't worry, this is entirely natural. You will notice on your hairbrush, whether you wear extensions or not, that you shed between 70 to 100 hairs a day - adding up to around 3,000 hairs a month or 36,000 a year. It seems a lot but on average we have at least 100,000 to 150,000 hairs on our heads alone, so this rate of growth and renewal is entirely normal.

Q - How long will my extensions last?

A - Both Real Hair extensions and fake hair extensions are designed to last three to four months depending of your home care and technique used.

Q - Can I just add highlights?

A - Yes. This is a very effective way of enjoying extensions and you can choose instant color that your hairdresser might otherwise feel would be too damaging to chemically apply to your own hair. With extensions no harmful dyes or solutions are used and you can either opt for subtle highlights and lowlights or even bold neon's, reds, blacks, blues, yellows, pinks, and greens - whatever you want, really. Hair extensions are a great way of achieving a bold new or natural color.

Q - Should I give my hair a rest between extensions?

A - There is no need if they are properly applied and removed, so your own hair remains undamaged. Most people prefer to have their extensions removed and replaced on the same day, so their hair continues looking as good as ever.

Q - Can I bath, shower, swim, go out in the wind and rain, and play sport in my new extensions?

A - Your new hair will look as fabulous wet as it does dry, and the extension joins will not show in water. You can shower, swim and go out in the wind and rain without having to worry. Our hair extensions perform as well on the sports field or in a gale as the thickest head of rooted hair. They are so well connected to your own hair that they are indistinguishable from natural hair and just as tough.

Q - What about sun and salt-water damage?

A - Treat your extensions exactly as well as would your own hair and they should not suffer during daily wear.

Q - What happens if I don't like my new extensions?

A - This very rarely happens, but if you are unhappy it is strongly advisable you let qualified staff at Renova remove your hair extensions without damage or residue, leaving your hair just as it was when you started.

Q - What happens when extensions are removed?

A - There are two different techniques. For fake hair, the seal protecting where the extensions are braided to your own hair is gently heated to soften it and the extension easily comes away. For real hair where a bonding resin is used, we apply a releaser solution that allows us to remove the individual extensions safely and efficiently.

Q - How experienced is your salon in extensions work?

A – Orlando is one of the first people in Florida to train as an extensions specialist in the mid 1990s, when the technique was still virtually unknown outside Hollywood. Hair extensions are different from ordinary hairdressing, and that is why many salons cannot apply good hair extensions. It is always best to entrust extensions work to a studio specializing in them, such Orlando’s. Orlando's original inspiration was his Grandmother’s beautiful long hair.  For Many years his grandmother will brush her hair for hours, allowing the hair to grow and grow.  Growing up he realized because women lifestyle it will be a bit difficult to allocate so much time to just brush their hair, that s why as a hair dresser he has been determined to make beautiful extensions affordable and attainable for every woman who has ever longed for the hair of her dreams. Best of all, it can be achieved within hours, not years. Renova Salon & Spa began 13 years ago. Orlando’s work has been featured in national newspapers land articles, in magazines that include Vogue, Hair, Cosmopolitan, Elle and  Marie-Claire.

Q - Why is real hair more expensive then handmade hair?

A - When the desired length is around 10 inches there isn't a great deal of difference between the two costs but as you start to think about long lengths, real hair can cost around double the price of fake hair. The main reason for this is that fake hair can be produced in a relatively short period, whereas real hair has to be grown for years thus making it an expensive commodity.

Q - Can I style handmade hair and real hair in the same way?

A - When it comes to curling, fake hair is extremely easy to style and when curled, holds a curl for days on end, but it is good to remember that when your technician applies curly fake extensions they will not remain that way unaided indefinitely. They will need to be regularly washed and re-curled. As for real hair, it is even easier when left to dry naturally because it dries with a natural wave. Should you want a structured wave/curl, you can use Ghd's or curling tongs, which can last unbelievably well. When it comes to blow drying there are differences too. The fake hair has to be handled with care so as to avoid over heating or burning it; this is not difficult but does have to be taught in the aftercare session. As for the real hair, you can blow-dry it however you like with no risk of ruining it. Another advantage of the real hair is that you can use straightening irons and curling tongs on the hair, which is a definite no with fake hair.

Q - Won't all those extensions be too heavy for my own hair underneath?

A - If they are applied correctly there should be no problem whatsoever. A good technician will balance the weight perfectly, taking a section of your hair and adding an extension of equal weight, resulting in a completely balanced natural look. It is surprising how quickly you get used to having a gloriously full head of hair.

Q. Will my scalp still be able to breathe naturally with extensions?

A - Our extensions are fitted close to the hair roots and scalp but do not block them, so you will be able to feel and touch your scalp as normal.

Q. Do I need to buy expensive shampoos and conditioners?

A - On Fake hair you can use any shampoo and conditioner but it is advised you buy a conditioning spray that is specifically designed for fake hair and helps keep it in great condition. For real hair most shampoos and conditioners are fine to use, however, those that contain proteins and oils should be avoided and should avoid extension shampoos that have not been designed for Marquesa Hair Extensions.

Q. Can I use a hairdryer, hot rollers and other styling equipment?

A - Yes, you can use all of the above with real hair however with fake hair straightening irons and curling tongs cannot be used. We will explain and if you would prefer show you exactly how to achieve the styles you want.

Q. Is it safe to leave my hair to dry naturally?

A - Yes, once again, you can treat your extensions just like your own hair.

Q - If I fancy a new hair color, how will that match up with my extensions?

A - Any extension hair we use is perfectly matched in color to your own. If your roots need doing before extensions are added, or you fancy a complete change of color, we can color your own head of hair ahead of any extensions work. We then add extensions that will have been carefully blended in front of your very eyes to exactly match whichever color you have chosen.

CLIP IN HAIR EXTENSIONS MARQUESA

Marquesa Hair have a wide and beautiful range of clip in hair extensions produced in a variety of natural colors, lengths, textures and grades that should blend perfectly with your hair.

Clip in hair extensions are temporary, interchangeable hair extensions that you can "clip on" to your natural hair. The advantages of using clip in extensions as opposed to professionally applied hair extensions are that you can play around with different colors and looks without the need for professional application. Professionally applied hair extensions are semi-permanent - lasting for approximately three months - and as such cannot be interchanged with ease.

Change your look for less

Clip in hair extensions are a lot less expensive than professionally applied extensions, so you can experiment with new styles and colors at much less cost. Have a new look every week and intrigue your friends!

Looking after your clip-ins

Clip in extensions are washable

Due to the clip in extensions' high quality and durability you can wash and wear them to your hearts content. Keeping your hair extensions clean and well maintained is of course important and you can do this much the same as you would do with your normal hair.

However, whilst performing any cleaning or straightening on your extensions do not do so with them attached to your hair - your clip ons are attached to much less of your hair than are the professional ones so the hair is carrying more weight and could be damaged by additional strain.

The easy solution to this is to get a friend to hold them up as you wash or straighten your hair, do this just as you would with your normal hair using shampoo and conditioner, or if straightening a pair of straightening irons or blow drying whilst using a round brush.

Clip-in Hair Extensions Questions & Answers

Q. Will clip-in hair extensions damage my hair?

A. No, providing you follow our instructions, it is very important they are applied and removed properly and should not be left in when sleeping. Please see our Instructions DVD or Video clip on our website for a demonstration

Q. Can I keep using my clip-in hair extensions time after time?

A. Yes you can just make sure you follow our instructions about applying and removing.

Q. Can I keep my clip-in hair extensions in my hair over night?

A. No, this is not advisable at all. The clips used to apply your new hair extensions are not safe to leave in your hair whilst sleeping. This could also be quite uncomfortable for you when sleeping.

Q. Can I cut my clip-in hair extensions?

A. Yes you can but it is advisable to ask your hairdresser to do this for you, your hairdresser is skilled in cutting hair and clip-in hair extensions require the same skill as cutting your own natural hair. Please note that real hair is cut using traditional scissors but synthetic hair needs to be cut and shaped using a hairdressing razor tool.

Q. Can I wash my clip-in hair extensions?

A. Yes you can but not whilst attached to your hair, please remove the clips first and then wash and condition as normal.

Add picture on how to care for clip in hair extension (Instructions)

Q. Can I straighten my clip-in hair extensions using straightening irons or blow-dry them with a round brush?

A. Yes you can. It is important to do this with the clip-in extensions not attached to your hair. Ask a friend to help hold each clip-in extension whilst you straighten the hair using either straightening irons when dry or blow drying with a round brush when damp.
The reason why it is important not to do this whilst your extensions are in your hair is because clip-in extensions are not the same as professionally applied hair extensions. They are applied to less of your hair than the equivalent amount of hair weight with professionally applied extensions. In short, your hair is supporting more weight using clip-in hair extensions. This is perfectly safe providing you follow the instructions.

Q. How do I choose Straight or wavy clip in hair extensions?

A. This is really is down to you, wavy is best unless you hair is dead straight, or if you constantly straighten your hair and do not like the slightly wavy look.

Q. Can I use any products with my clip-in hair extensions?

A. Yes you can. Any products that are suitable for human or synthetic hair will be compatible with your clip-in extensions.

How do I tell you the Color I want to order?

Simply call or send us an email.

Is it possible to fit the clip in hair myself?

Yes, it’s very easy. Please ask for our recommended online video link after purchase if required.

Can my hair extensions be straightened?

Yes! Clip in hair extensions are made with human hair. It is best to always use a heat protection product before applying heat to the extensions. Just like our own hair, the less heat you use the better.

How are the hair extensions attached?

The hair extensions are made of strips of real human hair, each strip is a specific size and has micro clips already attached to them. The clips are pressure sensitive and clipped into the hair between sections. This ensures they are hidden, secure and natural looking.

How often can I wear my extensions?

As often as you like, just remember to take them out before sleeping to prolong their life. The clip ins can last up anything from 6 - 12 months depending on how often you wear them and care for them.

Are the clip ins easy to look after?

VERY EASY, just look after them as if they were your own.

Will people be able to see if I am wearing hair extensions?

The beauty of clip in extensions is the natural look that can be achieved with them. Once fitted, they are a perfect blend with your own hair.

How long does my hair need to be to wear Clip in Extensions?

The shortest you hair should be for best results can be min of 4 - 6 inches long. Hair any shorter than this will not be able to hide the clips.

How long do they take to put into my hair?

They should take roughly 5 - 10minutes to put in. Like anything, the more you do it the quicker you will get at it. Just think how long it would take you to grow your hair this long?

How long will the hair last?

The better you look after your extensions the longer they will last. We use the best quality Remy human hair so depending on use and as long as you apply heat protection spray when using hot tools they could last 2 - 3 years. We also recommend that you regularly use deep conditioning treatments on your hair. Moroccan oil is a great treatment to use on your extensions as it provides much needed nutrients and natural oils to moisturize the extensions as they don't receive natural oils from you scalp like your natural hair does.

How do they attach to my hair?

They clip in under your hair by small snap on clips that have been sewn onto the extensions. The clips we use have a silicone insert so they don’t slip off or damage your hair. They are less than 1 inch wide and are the similar color as your extensions so they blend in perfectly to your natural hair. The clips don’t pull at your hair and will not ruin your natural hair at all.

What type of hair do you use?

We use 100% Remy Human Hair.

Will clip in extensions ruin my hair?

Absolutely not. Extensions, which are glued or sewn in, can ruin your natural hair. Clip-in extensions won't ruin your hair at all.

Can I wash my hair extensions?

Yes you can but not while the clips are attached your head. Remove them first then wash them with shampoo and conditioner just as you would with your natural hair. It is also best to use a deep conditioning treatment such as Moroccan oil washing your extensions, as the extensions don’t get the naturals oils from your hair.

Can I cut my extensions?

Yes you can but we recommend you get your hairdresser to do this for you.

Can I swim with my hair extensions in?

You sure can. Nothing is sexier than a girl coming out of the ocean with wet long hair with a sexy swimsuit. Guys will drool over you!

Can I dye my extensions?

Yes you can. Again it is always best to get your hairdresser to do this for you. They have higher quality hair dye and will be able match your hair color up more precisely. It is always best to do a small sample section first.

Can I sleep in my extensions?

It is not advisable to do this. The clips may make it very uncomfortable for you to sleep. You can try it yourself.

Can they be straightened or curled?

Yes you can. But as with your natural hair always use heat protect products on your extensions to keep them healthy and shiny and to help them last longer.

Can I use products in my hair extensions?

Yes you can, any products that are suitable for your head will be fine with your extensions.

Europe Grade Hair

This is the most popular choice for its soft natural feel and extensive color range. This type of hair will dry with a natural wave. All the hair is pre-dyed to match a color chart from which we can match a client's hair. Ethically sourced hair.

Indian Temple Hair

A very popular choice as the hair quality is excellent but not quite as good as the Euro Hair. There is a more limited color range on this type of hair and you can expect that it will dry with a natural wave. All the hair is pre-dyed to match a color chart from which we can match a client's hair. Ethically sourced hair.

Russian & Ukrainian Virgin Hair

This is the most exclusive, beautiful and rare type of hair as it has not been dyed or chemically treated in any way. The color range is limited and may have to be dyed to match individual client's requirements.

Curly Hair

The color range is limited in this hair type and may need a color treatment to match your hair. This hair type can sometimes be the most suitable for Afro-Caribbean hair. We are also able to offer, upon request, simulated, relaxed Afro-Caribbean hair.

Come and see for yourself. Book a free half an hour consultation with one of our hair extension specialists. The consultation will allow our advisor to give you the best advice and information on the type of hair extensions you require. It is highly recommended you have free test extensions applied during your consultation so we can test the suitability of your hair.

Ethically Sourced Hair

We offer several hair types.

The vast majority of hair used at Orlando’s for applying our professional hair extensions is from all over the world.  We take the most advanced techniques and your own hair to determined which one is the most suitable for you.

Indian Temple Hair

Indian temple hair is the most ethically sourced hair in the world. This hair is collected from temples and then sold to hair merchants all over the world for processing, and where needed, also coloring. After visiting various sorting factories around the world we found the factories we procure our hair supply from are both ethical and professional; both with their staff and procedures.

Our two most popular hair types, Indian hair and Europe Grade Hair, are both actually procured from these temples. The Euro grade hair is refined a little more than the Indian hair and is called Europe grade because the hair shaft diameter and structure closely matches typical European type hair.

Virgin and Curly Hair

The Virgin hair and curly hair accounts for only 3-5% of our hair extension demand. The sources for this type of hair are more difficult to track and our research seems to suggest that it generally comes from small local hair merchants around Russia, Eastern Europe and Brazil.

The FACTS about Hair Extensions

MYTH: Hair Extensions damage your hair

FACT: When hair extensions are applied properly there is virtually no reason why they would damage your hair, and to this end thousands of women have used extensions to grow their own hair to a desired length with no adverse effects whatsoever.
